The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) recently conducted a clean-up campaign in Mutare. The campaign which was the first of its kind by GMB in Mutare saw GMB staff comprised mostly of Eastern Region Staff and the Corporate Communications Department (CCD) getting into cleaning gear and getting down to business at Mutare's “Old Rank” bus terminus.
The GMB roped in other stakeholders like the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and Mutare City Council in this exercise that was well received by Mutare residents. “GMB has proved that it is a formidable force not only in the market but also in society. This cleaning initiative stands as proof that indeed they are part of the community they serve,” said Mrs. D Banda a Mutare resident.
The clean-up campaign was also an indirect way of promoting our Silo Brand of products as the cleaners were donning branded T-shirts advertising GMB products. Speaking on the sidelines of the clean-up campaign, GMB's Corporate Communications Officer (Print and Publications), Mrs Lindiwe Machanyangwa said the clean-up campaign was part of the department's strategic objective of reaching out to our different stakeholders and publics.
“We as GMB are part of a society and we cannot separate ourselves from that society. It is therefore important for us to take time to go in our community to play our role as responsible citizens,” she said. Giving back to the community is at the epicenter of the CCD`s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) spectra and what a better way to give back to the larger chunk of the community than to provide a clean facility for all, said Mrs. M. Zemura, GMB Corporate Communications Manager.
“In line with GMB`s CSR the Mutare cleaning campaign can be registered as a success and there is need to extend the gesture to all corners of the nation considering the organization`s reach. This initiative is set to go a long way in creating and enhancing brand awareness since GMB is a vibrant member of the society but people do not realize its commercial prospects. The clean up campaign strategically positions GMB into a visible space that is set to boost and enhance company sales,” she said.
